Integrating Social Studies and Science into the ESL Classroom
Presentation Resources by Heather Turngren and Erin Cary
Presentation Description
In this active session presented at Adult ESL Institute 2015,
participants gather background on the rationale for including social
studies and science in their current intermediate and advanced ESL
curriculum. Participants gain ideas
for ways to plan dynamic lessons that blend science and social studies, which
are a part of GED, CCRS, Adult Diploma, and Civics instruction, into their
existing work. Through hands-on
activities, participants examine resources and materials, including some
OERs (Open Educational Resources), to assist in developing lessons. The presenters also model the use of academic
language and learning strategies for their use in the intermediate and advanced
ESL classrooms.
